#100HeadsChallenge

So I'll update this as and when I complete the heads, but here's the first one for now.
I find these challenges really intimidating, and usually don't take it up because I can't commit and I don't finish it. But I think I need to atleast try!

The challenge is to finish 100 heads in 10 days. I finished 9 today, and it took me about an hour and a half. The goal you need to achieve with the original challenge is to get more confident drawing heads and facial anatomy. Ahmed Aldoori who started the challenge encourages participants to take reference from photos etc. However I changed this up a little bit. I'll definitely do some of the heads for study, but my goal at the moment is to enjoy drawing (like I used to) and just draw for fun, to explore styles and shapes.

I really hope I make it to a 100! Here are the first 9.

Detective chic

6th Feb 2016

So my wacom driver wasn't functioning properly. I decided to use this to my advantage and came up with this cut out lookin style. Tried to use a different pallet than my usual too! If any of u graphic designers/illustrators have a good tutorial on colour usage please send!

Just realized how bad by anatomy and proportion has gotten without practice! Although I was just messing around :P

Sexy Eyes Biker Chic

26th Aug 2015

I wish I saved the process of how I started making these doodles. Sometimes I'm working on a board for a client, and suddenly on the board I will start drawing an eye, or a hat. And I just cut paste it onto a new artboard before I ruin my boards, and continue working on that eye later.

So this is how 'sexy eyes' happened. Enjoy!

Here's a bonus process GIF :D

Chibi Arvind

24th Aug 2015

Did a cute chibi version of Arvind last night while boarding on a project! He doesn't ever look THIS happy and cute, but I love where he's going with his hair these days. Total samurai!

And you'll never get to see him this chubby and cute because of his pahadi genes. Enjoy!

Here's his wonderful work, if you're interested > JumpingDot.

Musica è vita!

14th July 2015

Did a fun sketch of a musical man! Had a real fun time painting this guy. I realised how weak my lighting sense is! The initial sketch had some really messed up lighting with multiple light sources! Arvind helped me out with the shadows and I went ahead wit what it looks like right now.

Hope I'll be finishing the other two characters I drew along with this guy!

The title if the post means - 'Music is Life' in Italian. Enjoy! :)

Prisoners Character Study

11th July '15
Did a quick character study on Hugh Jackman in Prisoners. I should def do this more often, there is a lot of learning involved. Hugh Jackman is such a great actor, and I absolutely love this film and the character he plays in it.

I am learning how to quickly capture a character in drawing, and I hope soon I can make a very readable character design off it.

Just experimenting with a new style. Really gone out of practice with the colour palette! Hope I get better with more such experiments.

Second GIF

22nd April 2014

So I decided to take my previous GIF a step further and animate my awesome friend Ram. Check him out dancing. I haven't animated over a year or something so please forgive this nonsense.

I'm still happy with it. *grin*

Party tiiiiiiime! Feel that energy!
For those who can't stand the blinding colour!

First GIF

21st April 2014

Yes, as the title reads, this is my first GIF, and don't mind, it's pretty lame. I just wanted to see how they do it, and I managed this shabby work. It's actually a caricatured painting of my good friend Ram. It's more like a process GIF actually. I wanted to demonstrate how easy it is to draw Ram. Step by step. ;)

Shiftin' Shade Cover art!

15th April 2014

So this is a project I took up for a friend who is an awesome musician. He has recently started Electro-Jazz. His name is Darren Pareira, a.k.a Shiftin' Shade. You can follow him and his upbeat fresh music HERE. I made a cover art for him which may/may not appear on his first Vinyl Album. Here is the entire process with the final results. ;) Enjoy.
Initial explorations that I showed Darren

The final painted artwork. I just went blank when it came to the background, but then I thought I'd leave it that way.

Tried out some filters. I actually liked the last one a lot, Darren even tried an ACID filter which I've tried really hard to find but failed.

Hilltop

21st March 2014

So this was done sometime near 27th Feb. Went on a trek with a friend, and it was so refreshing to see something other than the city. We climbled a small mountain and the weather was gloomy, and it rained, and the view was amazing. I guess once in a while it's something we really need from our lives - distance. It just puts a lot of things into perspective.

Cheers, and enjoy. :)

Mal Cobb (Marion Cotillard)

23th Jan 2012

So I spent about 3 hours on this and I'm very happy with the results. I love Mal's character in Inception (and I recently watched it on TV for the 4th time) and got inspired to paint her. She is so beautiful and she has such great features. And yes I love her accent.

After really long I understood how to use color on the face. How to use greens, blues, yellows, pinks and browns. I think I amped up a few steps since my painting of Kate Beckett. Not only this, but I think I got the likeliness pretty close as well, and I haven't got a character right for a long time!

Hope you guys like it!

Birthday Rock n' Roll Darren!

27th Dec 2013

Finally I can upload this coz I just gifted it to my friend Darren for his birthday! Hope he liked it! It was so much fun painting this one. I took reference from his profile pictures like a creepy stalker for his character and his epiphone guitar. Everything else comes from knowing him! XD Done in 5 wee hours of the morning!

Day 32 - Kate Beckett 'Speedpaint'

21st Dec '13

Only 10 days till new years and I still have to make a lot of resolutions! I finally got my ass to paint 'speedpainting' of kate beckett from Castle! I love her character, and I tried really hard to get the likeness right. It looked kinda okay until the sketch stage but then it just went haywire during the painting.

Also I tried really hard to do it under 30 mins, but the first 15 mins went into the setup and the sketch, and then it even exceeded 1 hr. :(

Painttool SAI, Sherlock and Shagun!

17th Dec 2013

Well after SOOO long I made some 'artwork' and not practice unfinished drawings. One of my favorite deviantartists named Barukuri said she uses painttool SAI to paint her artworks, so I decided to download the trial and mess around with it. This is an absolutely GREAT software for painting. There are only a few presets and brushes and textures, but they're absolutely wonderful!! And it's got the same shortcuts as photoshop, but things are def. a little different. The colors and the brushes just look amazing! I didn't spend too much time on it, but I came up with this..

The resolution isn't great because I hadn't planned an artwork when I started. I just wanted to paint something fresh and it turned out to be this! It's actually inspired from the BBC Sherlock. I can't wait for Season 3! I'm so glad I did something for myself, and I started a new beautiful software today! XD XD

On the sidelines, I noticed I just got 111 followers! In India that's a lucky number, it's called 'Shagun', which means giving more than a hundered (more happiness than desired); generally a sum of 111 is given as a gift during weddings and other celebrations. It's hard to translate it. So thanks guys!

Incomplete concept sketches

4th Nov 2013

Some of the first sketches inaugurating the new sketchbook! <3 p="">

I thought I should start with a dream of a beautiful home, a comfortable cane swing, a good book,
and a dog by a window.

Tried to sketch a good in mad love, but Akshay said it doesn't come through coz she's not facing her phone. I guess he's right.

A traditional stereotypical sketch of what is Indian. This was the result of attending a beautiful panel discussion on 'What is Indian?'.

Made up an imaginary character called 'The Himalayan Kuqua'! :D Seems cute enough to hug!

Akshay's 'aur kya chahiye' moment. Headphones and a good book. Couldn't survive without him in Nashik.

That's the end of this sketchstream! Until next time. Cheers!

Day 30 - Sherlock (BBC)

24th Aug 2013

Got tired of lazing around. I decided to channel my frustration into painting. Since I recently started watching the amazing BBC Sherlock, here it is!! Enjoy!

Learned a ton about lighting the face. :) Also tried a new brush!

DP Internship #1

10th Aug 2013

So I'm not allowed to post everything, but I'm finally gonna post a few things from my diploma project internship. I developed storyboards, character designs, visual development, illustrations, and a little animation for a story app for the ipad. I worked on 'The Town Musicians of Bremen'.
Here's a frame from the story.

When the user hovers over the character it talks in form of visuals. This guy is one of the three thugs who live in the house where the animals halt for food.

The Greedy Pencil

This blog is a collection of (some of) my work, the art I do for fun, my inspirations and the sweat that goes into making animated films. Enjoy!
