Day 25 - The Hunger Games fanart

22nd August 2012

I don't know if this movie is underated or not, but I absolutely loved every second of it. I loved the story, the look, the feel, the concept, the costumes, and especially the characters, who are so well rounded! I have been browsing some beautiful fanart and I was wishing there were merchandise being sold here. People always tell me to grow up and out of fiction, but I never will. Landmark had a HUGE sale and I HAD to buy the books after watching the movies. I am so excited to start reading.

Anywho, this post is a speedpainting of Katniss Everdeen, moments before being sent into the arena when she's in the tube, looking back at Cinna. This one took about 40 minutes. I wish my face study would be stronger!

Another quicky gesture. I loved the post and the confidence in the expression.

Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor. ;)

Help StoryCorps!

If I was rich or even moderately well-off, the first project I would fund would be StoryCorps. I have been watching their animations from the very first and they are so beautiful and so moving in their style and narration that they totally deserve the money from us. We're ready to pay so much money for funny entertainment like Dick Figures, but StoryCorps has just collected over 2K of funds. It's really sad. If you can afford it, please contribute atleast $1 to their amazing 1/2 hour production.

Here's their channel on youtube, you can watch all their films HERE (for free).

Old TVP ball bounce

19th August 2012

I don't know why this is coming up so late. It's a simple ball bounce with nearly the right timing done on TVP in >15 mins. Alok and I had made a wonderful discovery that day, thanks to Eric Goldberg's book - Crash course for animation. We were figuring out the difference between frames and drawings! All previous confusions were resolved. What had been taught to us was complete nonsense. A ball did not always take 1 second to bounce, and a walk did not always take 16 drawings. It all depended on how fast/slow the character was walking, or what kind of ball it was, and whether it was dropped or had a life of its own. So I drew this as a quick demo to juniors to get their basics clear.

Basics are so much to animate. They always end up boosting your confidence.

Day 25 - Football in years!

17th August 2012

For the 2nd time in my life I played football yesterday! The last time I played was when I was in the green house team in Std. 10. It was okay, we won, and I played decent. It's 6 years later and my friends forced me to come play coz they didn't qualify to play in the leagues if they didn't have a girl on the team. So I got to play 4 pretty good matches, and I got better with each match.  But overall I was pathetic. I was trying very hard not to touch the ball. I'm so used to playing sports which involve the hands. I play everything from basketball, table tennis, badminton athletics to frisbee, but football? Today my body is broken down. When friends back home see a photo of me playing they think I kicked ass or something! After the matches were done this is a actually how I felt.

Oh well. Atleast I had the balls to embarrass myself for friends. AND I completely enjoyed myself.

Gesture Drawing - So You Think You Can Dance

4th August 2012

Some gestures from the amazing dance show that I LOVE - 'So You Think You Can Dance'. Dance has so much emotion involved, and it's such an inspiration to watch these artforms. It's an extension of singing where we can speak.
Enjoy, and if you haven't watched it yet, youtube them right away. :)

These gestures are from 500 days of summer. Came out damn shitty.

More timepass. :| That's leonard from Big Bang theory and the others are random people from my head.

Easy A Gestures

1st August 2012

My gestures had totally rusted! So I decided to sketch some from movies after getting some really boring gestures of foundation students sitting and drawing perspective sketches.
Here are the strongest ones from Easy A, one of my favourite films. I got a new style of drawing hair and its main masses - turned out pretty nice. Enjoy!

Day 24 - Her eyes

6th August 2012

I'm getting a lot of visuals listening to some wonderful songs these days. Sometimes I get very emotional and I draw everything I feel, even though I don't fully understand it. I feel the way someone's eyes look tells you everything about them.

Day 23 - Chasing Cars

2nd August 2012

Just for fun. Thought of this scene while listening to Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars. Although it was much more beautiful in my head. Enjoy!

The Greedy Pencil

This blog is a collection of (some of) my work, the art I do for fun, my inspirations and the sweat that goes into making animated films. Enjoy!
